Why might a Florida real estate license holder who has completed a 14-hour continuing education course still be told to take a 28-hour reactivation course before returning to active practice?
Staff Q&A from the 63Hours team.
Ordinary renewal education and reactivation education are not always interchangeable. The requirement depends on the license's status and how long it has been involuntarily inactive.
Florida Statutes section 475.183 separates the timelines. For involuntary inactivity lasting 12 months or less, it specifies at least 14 hours of prescribed continuing education. For more than 12 months but fewer than 24 months, it requires the prescribed 28-hour reactivation course. A license involuntarily inactive for more than two years becomes null and void, subject to the statute's limited reinstatement provisions.
That is why completing a familiar 14-hour package does not automatically solve every inactive-license problem. The course may be appropriate for an ordinary renewal but insufficient for the status recorded by DBPR.
Before buying another course:
For example, someone who has been involuntarily inactive for 13 months should not assume that a recently completed ordinary CE package is the required reactivation course.
First-renewal post-license education is another separate category. The Commission's education page explains that distinction; do not use CE or this timeline as a substitute for checking a missed initial-renewal requirement.
