To upgrade from a sales associate to a broker, applicants must meet stricter education and experience standards.Applicants with a 4-year or higher degree in real estate are exempt from the Broker Pre-License Course (Course II).Active Florida Bar members are NOT exempt from the Broker Pre-License Course (Course II). (Note: They were exempt from the sales associate course, but must take the full 72-hour course to become a broker).Experience Requirement - An applicant must have held an active real estate sales associate license for at least 24 months during the 5-year period preceding the application. The experience can be from Florida or another state, but it must be verified as active.Broker Pre-License Course - Course II: Consists of 72 classroom hours, including the end-of-course exam. Students cannot miss more than 8 hours of class when attending a real estate school in person. State Licensure Examination -The state exam for brokers consists of 100 questions. It is considered more difficult than the sales associate exam, with a heavy emphasis on closing statements and escrow management.
