Look for the brokerage's published standardized operating procedures. DOS requires public information about buyer prerequisites, including its policies on identification, exclusive agreements and mortgage preapproval. Read the policy rather than assuming every brokerage uses the same rule. Ask the supervising broker if the published information and actual practice appear inconsistent.
