A standard section contains 640 acres. A quarter of that is 160 acres; a quarter of 160 is 40 acres. For acreage questions, multiply the fractions or divide by each denominator in turn. Directional labels tell you which part of the section is involved, but do not change the acreage of an otherwise standard fraction.
