Application Requirements

Florida statutes provide specific fee exemptions for military personnel, veterans, their spouses, and low-income individuals to reduce barriers to licensure.1. Military Veterans and Spouses - The Department (DBPR) waives the initial licensing fee, the initial application fee, and the initial unlicensed activity fee for: Military Veterans: Honorably discharged veterans who apply for a license within 60 months (5 years) of discharge and spouses of honorably discharged veterans who apply within 60 months of the veteran's discharge.2. Active Duty Personnel and Spouses - Initial Fee Waiver: The Department waives the initial licensing fee for: Active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces, spouses of active duty members, Surviving spouses of active duty members.Renewal Fee Exemption - Active duty members who are not practicing in the private sector for profit are exempt from all renewal requirements (fees and continuing education) during active duty and for up to 2 years after discharge. Active duty members who are practicing in the private sector for profit, however, must complete continuing education but are exempt from renewal fees. Spouses of active duty members who are absent from Florida due to the member's duties are also exempt from renewal requirements.3. Low-Income Individuals - The Department waives the initial licensing fee for a low-income individuals, persons whose annual household income (before taxes) is at or below 130% of the federal poverty guidelines.
