Legal Descriptions

Section 2 of 17

Buyers, title companies, and lenders rely on legal descriptions in documents such as deeds and mortgages to make sure the correct property is being transferred. The description must accurately show the property’s location, size, and shape.Legal descriptions are created using information from a survey. A survey is a drawing of a piece of land that shows its boundary lines. Surveyors measure distances, angles, and areas to determine the exact limits and location of the property. Fun fact: George Washington's first job was as a land surveyor.
