FLORIDA REAL ESTATE SALES ASSOCIATE COURSE

Law & Qualifications

Section 2 of 29

The Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) is a Florida state agency created to protect the public by overseeing many different professions and businesses. Its main job is to make sure professionals follow the law, meet licensing requirements, and operate fairly and safely. DBPR handles licensing, investigates complaints, and enforces rules for a wide range of occupations—including Real Estate, Construction Contractors, and many others. DBPR divides these responsibilities across specialized divisions — like Division of Professions, Division of Real Estate, Hotels and Restaurants, Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, and others — to manage licensing, compliance, inspections, and enforcement across all the professions and industries above. Instead of each profession policing itself, DBPR provides centralized oversight to ensure consistency, accountability, and consumer protection. In simple terms, DBPR acts as the watchdog that helps keep Florida’s businesses professional, ethical, and trustworthy. The Division of Real Estate (DRE) is a specialized division within the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) that supports the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC). While FREC is responsible for making decisions about real estate licensing, rules, and discipline, the DRE handles the day-to-day administrative work, such as processing license applications and renewals, maintaining records, investigating complaints, and providing staff support for commission meetings. In simple terms, DRE does the behind-the-scenes work that allows FREC to regulate real estate professionals effectively.
