Follow the money in the order described. If a brokerage receives $12,000 and the associate's agreement gives the associate 60% of that amount, the associate receives $7,200. If there is an earlier split between brokerages, calculate that first. Do not apply the associate's percentage directly to the sale price or to someone else's commission share.
