What is a Public Accommodation? It is any private entity open to the public, including:Real estate officesHotels and restaurantsShopping centers and retail storesConvention centersIf you own or lease a commercial facility, you must ensure that people with disabilities can physically get in and use the services. You cannot say, "Sorry, we don't have a ramp, so you can't buy a house from us."The Standard for Existing Buildings: For older buildings (built before 1990), owners are required to remove architectural barriers if doing so is "Readily Achievable."If it is easy and cheap to fix, you must fix it. Examples: Installing a ramp over two small steps, widening a door, or putting Braille on elevator buttons.If it’s too hard: If removing the barrier would bankrupt the owner or destroy the structural integrity, they might be exempt, but they must offer an alternative (like curbing service).
