License Status: Active vs. Inactive

FLORIDA REAL ESTATE SALES ASSOCIATE COURSE

License Law And Commission Rules

Section 10 of 15

Your license is like a light switch—it’s either ON (Active) or OFF (Inactive). But unlike a light switch, the "OFF" position has two different modes: one where you put it there on purpose, and one where the state put it there because you did something wrong.Active Status means you are legally allowed to engage in real estate services and get paid. To be active, you must find a broker (or owner-developer) to employ you. They register you with the DBPR. Note: You cannot be "Active" just by passing the test. If you pass the exam but haven't found a an employing broker yet, your license is issued as Voluntary Inactive.Voluntary Inactive (The "Pause Button”). This is a choice you make. Maybe you want to take a break from real estate to travel, raise a family, or try another career, but you don't want to lose your license entirely. How to get there? You request this status from the DBPR. You must still pay your renewal fees and complete your Continuing Education (CE) every cycle. Time Limit: None. You can stay Voluntary Inactive forever, as long as you keep paying and doing your CE.
