Swiss Topography

There are many things the Swiss do very well with impeccable efficiency, but unfortunately it almost always ends up emptying your wallet at best and selling a kidney to fund it at worst. It is therefore a very pleasant surprise when you stumble upon something in Switzerland that is both awesome and costs nothing. One such thing is the stupendous Swiss Topography website (Switzerland Mobility) which not only gives you high resolution, printable maps of the whole of Switzerland’s extensive hiking trail network, but it also allows you to change to an ariel photo overlay. This is pure genius and makes scoping out possible alpine singletrack adventures much easier. It’s even available as an app for the iPhone and there are a bunch of extra useful functions if you’re willing to pay a small subscription. The website is so good that I’m utterly convinced someone in Switzerland has cocked up and forgotten to charge for this service. Best keep it quiet then so they don’t realise…
